Description of Eid prayer

Question What is the description of the Eid prayer? Answer Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allaah. The Eid prayer is one where the imam attends and leads the people in praying two rak’ahs. ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The prayer of al-Fitr is two rak’ahs and the prayer of al-Adha is two rak’ahs, complete and not shortened, on the tongue of your Prophet, and the one who fabricates lies is doomed.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 1420 and Ibn Khuzaymah. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i.  It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out on the day of al-Fitr and al-Adha to the prayer place, and the first thing he would do was to offer the prayer. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 956  In the first rak’ah he should say Takbeerat al-ihraam (say “Allaahu akbar” to start the prayer), after which he should say six or seven more takbeers, because of the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased

Etiquette of Eid

Question What are the Sunnahs and etiquettes that we should act in accordance with on the day of Eid?. Answer Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allaah. The Sunnahs that the Muslim should observe on the day of Eid are as follows:  1 – Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.  It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta’ and elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta’ 428.  Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.  The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumu’ah and other public gatherings. Rather on Eid the reason is even stronger.  2 – Eating before going out to pray on Eid al-Fitr and after the prayer on Eid al-Adha:  Part of the etiquette is not to go out to pray on Eid al-Fitr until one has eaten some dates, because of the hadeeth narrated by al

Fatwa from the Standing Committee regarding the case when the day of Eid happens to be a Friday

Question alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no Prophet and upon his family and companions. To proceed: there have been many questions regarding the case when the day of Eid happens to be a Friday and the two Eids come together: Eid al-Fitr or al-Adha and the “eid” of Friday (Jumu‘ah), which is the weekly “eid”. Is Jumu‘ah prayer obligatory for the one who attended Eid prayer, or is it the case that the Eid prayer is sufficient and he can pray Zuhr instead of Jumu‘ah? Should the adhaan for Zuhr prayer be given in the mosques or not? And there are other questions. So the Standing Committee for Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas has decided to issue the following fatwa: Answer Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah. Concerning this issue, there are a number of marfoo‘ hadiths and mawqoof reports, including the following:  1. The hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which Mu‘aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan (may Allah have mercy on

The abhorrent nature of shirk

Question What is meant by the words of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him): The description of being a mushrik [one who associates others with Allah] is valid and is confirmed even if the message has not reached him, because he is associating others with his Lord and regarding false gods as being equal to Allah? Answer Praise be to Allah. The abhorrent nature of shirk, wrongdoing and shameful deeds is something that is well-established even if one has not heard of the teachings of the Prophets, but the (divine) punishment of one who does such deeds does not become due until after the teachings reach him Praise be to Allah. What Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) meant by these words was to highlight that shirk is wrong and blameworthy, and that the one who commits shirk is to be described as a mushrik; his action is abhorrent and blameworthy, regardless of whether or not proof with evidence has been established against the mushrik, because
